A recent article from El Mercurio (Chilean newspaper) states that 12,000 tourists are expected to land on Rapa Nui in the month of July for this year’s total eclipse.  About 10,000 are expected to arrive during July 1 – 11. The island’s current population is only  4,000 (that’s one local to every 3 tourists).  Authorities are asking for additional police personnel from mainland Chile.

Mara Films has launched a new project to document this event and the impact that it has on Rapa Nui.  Stay tuned for new updates and posts.
